María del Mar Sánchez-López

María M Sanchez-López2Dr. María del Mar Sánchez-López is Associate Professor in Applied Physics. She graduated in Physics in 1992 and got her PhD in Physics in 1997, both in Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. After her PhD Thesis which encompassed the study of the electronic structure of high-Tc superconductors, she got a post-doc grant (1997-98) of the Italian government (INFM, Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica Della Materia) to pursue her research on strongly correlated electronic systems. In October 1998 she joined the Electronics Technology area in UMH, and in 2005 the Applied Physics area.

After joining UMH her research activities geared toward Photonics, taking part in various projects in the field of optical materials. She was an invited researcher in the electro-optics laboratory at San Diego State University (California) in 2002 and 2015, and at the Laboratoire d’Optique P. M. Duffieux in Institute FEMTO ST of Besançon (France) in 2006. Her research activity is actually centered on slow and fast-light, optical filtering and liquid-crystal based reconfigurable systems for spectral shaping. Her research experience has lead to more than 50 papers in JCR international journals and has been involved in 25 competitive research projects and R+D funding. Dr. Sánchez-López is also active in outreach activities in photonics.

She helped organizing, as part of the local Committee, the 4th Reunión Española de Optoelectrónica (OPTOEL, July 2005) and the 3rd International Workshop on Liquid Crystals for Photonics (septiembre 2010) that were both held in Elche. She has been recently recognized as Senior Member of SPIE-The International Society for Optics and Photonics (http://spie.org/x19144.xml), and has participated in the 2014-2015 edition of SPIE Women in Optics Planner. She is also a member of SEDOPTICA (Sociedad Española de Óptica) and RSEF – Real Sociedad Española de Física, where she serves in the Board of Directors of its Local Section in Alicante. She was Teaching Coordinator of the Degree in Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación (especialidad Sistemas de Telecomunicación) from 1998 to 2000. She is a member of the PDI board.
